How to Order Custom Printed Bags

From initial concept to delivered product, here is what to expect when you place a custom packaging order with Friesen Plastics.

Your Order, Step by Step

We make the process straightforward so you can focus on your business while we handle the packaging.

1. Consultation & Specification

It starts with a conversation. Tell us about your product, filling equipment, target shelf life, and branding goals. Our packaging specialists will recommend the right bag style, film structure, gauge, and closure type for your application. We will provide a detailed specification sheet covering dimensions, material, print colours, and any additives (UV, anti-static, perforation, etc.).

2. Quotation

Based on your specifications, we prepare a formal quotation that includes per-unit pricing, minimum order quantities, tooling costs (if applicable), and estimated lead times. We are transparent about costs. There are no hidden fees. Once you approve the quote, we issue a sales order confirmation and begin pre-production planning.

3. Artwork & Dieline

Our graphics team provides a print-ready dieline template sized to your exact bag dimensions, including bleed areas, safe zones, fold lines, and registration marks. Your designer or ours lays out the artwork on this template. We accept files in PDF, Adobe Illustrator (.ai), or EPS format with all fonts outlined and images at 300 DPI minimum.

4. Digital Proofing & Approval

This is where precision meets collaboration. We use an advanced digital proofing platform that lets you review your artwork online, on any device, at any time. Here is how it works:

  • Markup & Annotation, Click directly on the proof to leave precise comments. No more handwritten markups or vague email descriptions. Every note is pinned exactly where it belongs on the artwork.
  • Version Control: Every revision is tracked automatically. A complete version history is maintained so you can compare any two versions side-by-side. Our smart comparison tool highlights every change between versions, so nothing is missed.
  • Automated Workflow: The proof is routed through the right people in the right order: your marketing team, regulatory reviewer, final approver. Each reviewer sees the proof at the correct stage, and automatic reminders keep the process moving without anyone chasing emails.
  • Colour Verification: Preview colour separation plates directly in the proofing tool to verify ink coverage and colour breakdowns before going to press. What you see on screen reflects what will print.
  • Barcode Validation: Our system automatically detects and validates barcodes and QR codes on your artwork, ensuring they scan correctly before production begins.
  • Complete Audit Trail: Every comment, decision, and approval is logged with timestamps. This gives your quality and compliance teams a complete record of who approved what, and when.

Once your final approver signs off, the proof is locked and the approved file moves directly to plate production. No ambiguity, no misunderstandings.

5. Plate Production

We produce flexographic printing plates from your approved artwork. Plates are manufactured to tight tolerances for crisp registration across all print stations. For repeat orders, plates are stored in our facility and reused, saving you time and money on subsequent runs.

6. Production

Your bags enter our BRC-certified production line. Film is extruded to your exact gauge specification, printed on our central impression press for precise colour registration, and converted into finished bags through slitting, sealing, wicketing, or other converting operations as required. In-process quality checks at every stage ensure consistency from the first bag to the last.

7. Quality Inspection & Shipping

Finished product passes through final inspection, dimensional verification, print quality assessment, seal integrity, and visual inspection. Once cleared, bags are packed, palletized, and shipped to your facility. We coordinate freight logistics across Canada and can arrange cross-border shipments to the United States.
