Liquid Bags & Spout Pouches

Stand-up spout pouches and flat pouches with fitments for controlled dispensing of beverages, sauces, condiments, baby food, cleaning products, and industrial liquids.

Flexible Liquid Packaging That Delivers

Spout pouches and liquid bags have displaced rigid glass, plastic, and metal containers in a growing range of applications. The combination of a flexible pouch structure with a hard plastic fitment or spout delivers the consumer convenience of controlled, resealable pouring while dramatically reducing packaging weight and material compared to bottles or cans. The format is also more space-efficient to ship and store, and eliminates the risk of breakage associated with glass.

The key to liquid bag performance is the seal integrity between the flexible pouch film and the rigid fitment. Friesen Plastics works with industry-standard fitment suppliers to produce spout pouches with reliable heat-welded or insertion seals that maintain the pouch's structural integrity under fill pressure, transportation stress, and consumer use conditions.

Pouch Formats

Stand Up Spout Pouches

The most common liquid packaging format. A stand-up pouch (typically Doyen or K-Seal bottom) with a hard plastic spout and cap fitment inserted into the top or side panel. The pouch stands independently on shelf, the spout allows controlled pouring, and the cap provides a resealable tamper-evident closure. Available in fill capacities from 100 ml to 5 L depending on pouch dimensions and film gauge.

Flat Pouches with Fitments

Side-sealed flat pouches with a spout or fitment for industrial liquids, lubricants, or bulk food-service sauces. The flat format is space-efficient for storage and shipping. Commonly supplied flat and filled via the spout, then sealed. Used in foodservice, industrial chemical supply, and cleaning product distribution where the pouch is stored horizontally or in a carton.

Spout Cap Types

Screw Cap

Standard threaded screw cap that reseals the spout after each use. The most common closure type for food, beverage, and household liquid pouches. Tamper-evident band on first opening. Available in a range of diameters and neck finishes to match industry-standard filling equipment.

Flip Cap

A hinged cap that flips open with thumb pressure for one-hand dispensing and snaps closed for secure resealing. Popular for sauces, condiments, and personal care products where repeated single-hand use is common. Prevents the cap from being misplaced after opening.

Push-Pull (Drink Cap)

A push-pull valve cap that opens with upward pressure for direct drinking or squeezing, and closes by pushing the valve back down. Designed for beverage pouches, sports drinks, and children's food pouches. Provides a no-mess, one-hand dispensing experience.

Disc Cap

A flat disc-style cap that lifts open to expose the spout opening and snaps back flat for a low-profile reclosed position. The compact profile reduces the overall pouch height and weight and is often used for food and baby food applications where a streamlined silhouette is preferred.

Fill Methods

Spout Fill

Liquid is filled through the fitment spout using a nozzle fill head matched to the spout diameter. The cap is applied after filling. Suitable for both stand-up and flat pouch formats. The most common method for consumer beverage and sauce pouches.

Top Fill

The pouch is filled from the open top before the spout cap is applied. The top is then heat-sealed above the fitment. Used where fill volumes require a wider opening than the spout provides, or where filling equipment is configured for top-down fill operations.
