Seed packaging must balance practical performance with retail appeal. At the small-bag end of the market, consumer-facing birdseed and garden seed products compete on shelf with vibrant graphics and convenient formats. At the bulk end, grass seed, agricultural seed, and feed-blend products demand heavy-gauge bags with strong seals and rugged construction that can withstand warehouse stacking, forklift handling, and outdoor storage conditions.
Friesen Plastics produces seed packaging across the full weight range, from lightweight retail stand-up pouches for wildflower and herb seed to heavy PE and PP woven bags for 25 lb and 50 lb bulk formats. All food-contact materials are produced in our BRC-certified Lethbridge facility.
Packaging Formats
Retail Bags: 1 lb to 50 lb
Bottom-seal and side-seal bags for retail birdseed in custom sizes. Available printed or unprinted. Gauges from 1 mil to 6 mil. Suitable for wicket-fed automated filling lines, hand packed, or PP woven stitching.
Stand Up Pouches
Recloseable stand-up pouches for wildflower seed, herb seed, grass seed and garden seed sold at retail. K-seal and Doyen bottom configurations available for 1 oz to 3 lb fill weights. Packing Heavier? Try a Flat Bottom Pouch. Resealable zipper closures and clear windows allow consumers to see seed variety. Photo-quality flexographic printing for premium shelf presentation.
Flat Bottom Pouches: Premium Seed Retail
Five-panel flat bottom box pouches for premium retail seed products requiring maximum shelf stability and branding area. Ideal for specialty wild bird blends and ornamental seed mixes in the 1 lb to 20 lb range. Resealable zipper options and specialty coatings available.
Heavy Gauge PE Bags: 25 lb to 50 lb
High-strength polyethylene bags for bulk birdseed and grass seed in 25 lb and 50 lb formats. Film gauges from 3 mil to 6 mil using LLDPE and co-extruded blends for optimal puncture and tear resistance. No-Slip films for stable stacking. Printed or unprinted.
PP Woven Bags: Agricultural & Grass Seed
Woven polypropylene bags for grass seed, turf seed, and agricultural seed in 25 kg and 50 lb sizes. Available laminated for moisture resistance or uncoated for breathability. Suited to automated valve-fill systems. Optional PE liner for sensitive varieties requiring moisture barrier protection.
BOPP Laminated Bags: Branded Seed Products
Biaxially oriented polypropylene laminated bags for premium branded seed products at retail. Photo-quality printing directly on the bag surface gives sharper graphics than standard woven bags. Ideal for branded grass seed and specialty birdseed lines competing at retail shelf.
